Comfort Zone Camp® Holds 3-Day Weekend Camps in Northwest NJ for Grieving Children
Comfort Zone Camp was founded in 1998 in Richmond VA. In November 2001, just two months after the tragic events of September 11, 2001, camps were established in the NY/NJ area to serve the children of victims of 9/11. These camps were then expanded in 2005 to include not only children who lost a loved one on September 11th, but any grieving child who has experienced the death of a parent, sibling or primary caretaker to any type of loss. This change allowed us to continue serving 9/11 children, while providing support to other families seeking a grief resource closer to home. Comfort Zone Camps are FREE. As of December 2007, we have held 69 camps over the past 8 years; 19 in New Jersey, making CZC the nation’s largest bereavement camp.
Each weekend camp features activities such as group “healing circlesSM”, arts and crafts projects, games, trust building activities and lots of FUN! All activities are designed to give children the opportunity to express their emotions with others who have experienced similar losses, realize they are not alone and get back to being kids again instead of adults before their time.
CZC’s New Jersey camps are held at Camp Mason in Hardwick, NJ (near Blairstown, off Route 80). Approximately 60-70 children attend each camp. Transportation scholarships are available if needed, and offsite accommodations for an accompanying parent/guardian may be available upon request.
Our 2008 camp dates are: April 18-20, June 6-8 and October 24-26. To register, please submit a completed camper application form. We also have many opportunities to volunteer. If you have questions or would like additional information, please contact us at the address or website below.
